We are devoted to fostering authentic, intimate, and bold connections to people and places. Building intimacy is not easy and often does not come quickly. Nonetheless, when it's there and right, there is simply no substitute.

Betsy Vohs, Founder, CEO

Betsy Vohs founded the architecture and design firm Studio BV in 2015 to dedicate her ideas and energy to clients who want transformational design solutions. For Vohs, transformational design comes from investigating the places, contexts, and people that will be shaped by the design. How people feel, what they touch, how they interact - these human experiences are central.

Her 16-person studio has garnered national and international recognition. Accolades include being named one of Twin Cities Business’s Top 100 People of 2021, a top Woman in Architecture 2021, MSP Business Journal’s Top Women in Business 2018, and one of Bisnow’s Power Women in Real Estate 2021. Studio BV’s work has been featured in numerous publications including Architectural Record, Arch Daily, Architecture MN, Contract Magazine, Interior Design Magazine and Interior Design Magazine’s Best of Year 3 times in the last 5 years. Recently, Studio BV’s work was awarded VMSD’s Retail Renovation of the Year 2023.

Vohs is passionate about giving back to the design community by mentoring the next generation of architects and designers; she was an instructor at the University of Minnesota and is an active guest lecturer, speaker, design critic, and juror across the country. Additionally, Vohs is on the Executive Committee of the University of Minnesota Alumni Board of Directors. She is also on the Board of Cystic Fibrosis Foundation of Minnesota and the Dakotas chapter.

Vohs started Design Forward, which is the pro-bono division of the firm’s practice focused on doing design work for mission-driven organizations. To date, Design Forward has helped over 50 organizations leverage design to change the Twin Cities community. Studio BV was the first ever design and architecture firm to be honored with the Twin Cities Business Community Impact Award in 2023 for this pro-bono design work.

Betsy Vohs has a Master of Architecture from the University of Minnesota and a Bachelor of Science in Design from Arizona State University.

Courtney Lehmann, Partner

Courtney is a partner at Studio BV. She believes that design is a powerful tool to influence brands, environments, and people. She is a strategic designer working with clients to create a platform for design transformation that she stewards throughout each project. She has experience with diverse projects types, ranging from corporate headquarters and startup companies to hospitality and building repositioning projects. She finds inspiration for her work in service to not for profit organizations, using design to aid their mission of improving the world.
